Victorian boatneck collars, velvet capes, lamé, printed
dresses- Hedi Slimane brought the energy to L.A.
L.A is historically rock n roll with a style mash-up of goth,
punk classic rock and and bohemian, all of which Hedi Slimane paid homage to in
the Saint Laurent runway presentation of the label’s Fall 2016 menswear
collection and part one of its women’s ready-to-wear collection, which took
place at the historic Palladium in L.A. on Wednesday.
The show’s theme was a tribute to L.A’s music scene, which
was done in honor of Slimane’s diary. This year marks the 10th anniversary of
Slimane’s diary which is "an
interpretation of the written daily diary through photography”, Saint Laurent
Tweeted. Slimane, who has lived in L.A since 2008 (and where his studio has
been based since 2012) is obsessed with California culture and LAs music scene,
both of which have served as a huge point of inspiration for the designer.
Slimane’s runway line-ups have been known to have models that he casts off the
streets and beaches of L.A, as well as include celebrity offspring such as Jack
Kilmer (Val’s Son), Dylan Brosnan (Pierce’s son) and Dylan Lee (son of Pamela
Anderson and Tommy Lee), who starred in a short black and white video clip
released prior to the show on Wednesday night.
Victorian boatneck collars, velvet capes, lamé, printed
dresses, Bowie tuxes, band jackets, and oversized furs worthy of Janice Joplin,
the collection was full of vintage references reimagined in true Slimane
fashion.
