Sore Throat
Gargle twice daily with a solution of six pressed garlic cloves mixed into a glass of warm (not hot) water. Follow the regimen for three days. Research shows that fresh garlic juice has antimicrobial properties that fight pain-causing bacteria. The warm liquid soothes inflamed tissue.
Cough
Honey- Have 2 teaspoons of honey which research shows works better than cough suppressants. Also try a square or two of dark chocolate. Researchers found that chocolate's theobromine compound is more effective than codeine at suppressing persistent coughs.
Thyme- If you’re suffering from a cough, congestion, sore throat or bronchitis, thyme is a great choice because of its powerful antimicrobial properties. Make thyme tea by mixing 1 teaspoon of dried thyme into a cup of hot water. Let it steep for 10 minutes before drinking it. Drink 3-4 cups per day.
Congested Sinuses
Combine 1 cup tomato juice, 1 teaspoon chopped fresh garlic, 1/4 teaspoon cayenne powder and 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Warm the mixture and drink slowly.
Fever
Linden flower tea- Linden flower stimulates the hypothalamus to better control your temperature dilates blood vessels, inducing sweating. Simply steep 1 tablespoon of the dire herb (can you pick it up at stores like Whole Foods) in a cup of hot water for 15 minutes. Enjoy 3-4 cups per day. If your fever persists after a day or so pay a visit to the doctor. You could have an infection of some sort that can not be worked out at home.
Cold
Lemon water and honey- when you feel a cold coming on, mix a teaspoon of organic raw honey into a cup of hot water. Then cut a lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the honey water, dropping the used lemon half right into the cup.
Chapped Lips
Olive oil- when your lips are dry, cracked or chapped rub olive oil onto them. Olive oil is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and moisturizing. Your lips will feel immediately better but it will take a few days for them to heal on their own.
Puffy Eyes
Black tea- steep a black tea bag in hot water for 3 minutes to activate the tea. Cool the tea bag in the refrigerator then apply the damp bag as a compress to your closed eyes.
Prevent A Hangover
Vitamin B Complex- alcohol depletes the body of vitamin B, which helps break down alcohol in your body. Take a vitamin B complex supplement before going to bed or even before you start drinking. Drink plenty of water too.
Nausea and/or tummy troubles
Ginger- sip ginger tea which you can make by adding a 1/2 inch slice of ginger root to hot water, or make frozen ginger chips by filling an ice cube tray with ginger tea instead of water.
Urinary Tract/ Bladder Infection
Cranberry- cranberry prevents bacteria from sticking to the bladder wall. Drink 3 cups of unsweetened cranberry juice or eat a couple of handfuls of fresh cranberries and will start feeling better within hours.
