One of the best things about Fall is the opportunity to have fun with layering. Since I live in L.A, where the temperature never really drops below 65 degrees, I don't generally buy a "winter" wardrobe. Instead, I layer pieces I already own to make them colder weather friendly. I love a good turtleneck under every type of dress and under button ups shirts, and really have an affection for dresses and skirts over pants.
