When we are lacking in nutrients it shows on our skin, hair and nails and not receiving enough could mean lackluster skin and hair, acne, hair that is thin and won’t grow and nails that break and shred.
Our hair and nails are non-essential tissues. This means that they are last in line to receive nutrients, after the vital organs, which also means that we need to be consuming more nutrients than our organs need in order for there to be "overflow" for our non-essential tissues. Taking supplements is a great way to max out on key nutrients. Here is a look at some of my favorite supplements for healthy bodies, hair, skin and nails.
These berry flavored chews are packed with a blend of biotin
which is an essential B-vitamin important for the growth of healthy cells,
antioxidants- specifically lutein which is known for supporting skin hydration,
alpha-Lipoic acid and vitamins A and C which protect against damaging free
radicals that can promote the cell-aging process, collagen (the same amino
acids found in our hair, skin and nails).
Viviscal
Viviscal is an all around, and long time, favorite for longer, thicker hair. It’s 100% drug-free and is instead packed with vitamins that promote hair growth like biotin, niacin and iron. In addition, it has a deep sea fish oil that is unique to this product.
Murad Pure Skin Clarifying Dietary Supplement
This skin clarifying supplement contains vitamin A for cell turnover, zinc to reduce irritations and yellow dock and burdock extracts which help to remove toxins from the skin. It is said to be great for acne too!
Perricone MD Skin Clear
This vitamin pack contains all the essentials- vitamin A, C, D and B complex, plus omega- 3, borage and flaxseed oils- all which will give you seriously good hair and skin.
BioSil
Biosil contains silicon, which has been found to help your body produce collagen. Collagen is important for growth, repair and maintenance of skin, ligaments, bones, nails and hair, and is also a vital protein for healthy skin, hair and nails.
Milk Thistle Liver Cleanse
If you suffer from dark under-eye circles then this is for you. It’s a powerful detoxifying supplement that helps cleanse and support the liver, which, if not at it’s healthiest, can lead to
a variety of skin problems including eczema, dermatitis and those dreaded dark circles.
Organic Pharmacy Phytonutrients Capsules
These little capsules are a multivitamin based entirely on superfoods, food nutrients and digestive enzymes. The ingredient list includes powerhouses like alfalfa, spinach, broccoli, spirulina, chlorella and wheat grass. Talk about a serious boost for your overall health- strong hair, skin and nails included.
Sibu Sea Buckthorn Liquid Supplement
This wholefood based formula is jammed packed with omega 7 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and carotenoids, and is said to help with tone and texture of the skin and help grow your hair and nails.
