From boudoir blouses, robe coats, coordinated tops and bottoms, and silky dresses and slips, the pajama trend is bound to be the hottest trend for Spring. Check out the runway and "real-way" to wear the trend, plus get tips for pulling it off, after the jump!
I know, I know. You think, “pajamas outside of the house?”. The answer is Hell.Yes. Pajama dressing has actually been showing on the runway for a few seasons now, but hasn’t quite taken hold yet until this season. I think sometimes trends don’t take hold right away because some styles are more difficult to figure out when it comes to how to make something wearable and “your own". But with designers from Givenchy, Sonia Rykiel, Thakoon, Calvin Klein and Celine popularizing the trend and street style stars rocking in left to right, it was bound to take hold. And it has- full force.
The trend may even take the place of athleisure as the most comfortable and easy to wear style. Think silky, bedroom inspired blouses instead of performance tanks, loose silky pants in place of athletic leggings and choose smoking slippers over sneakers.
Feeling nervous about rocking your pjs? There are a few tips and tricks to pulling off the trend....
1. Balance your outfit by trying the following:
Wear a pajama top with denim to balance out the look.
Wear pajama pants with a pointed heel, which will adds polish.
Layer a pajama top under a dress. Doing so will give the otherwise baggy shirt some shape.
Style a silky slip dress with sneakers or long coat.
2. Be wrinkle-free
To pull off the trend, you want to look polished, not like you just rolled out of bed. Steam before wearing.
3. Be print and color conscious
Prints look much more like pajamas and should be worn with caution, and probably one piece at a time. A solid color pajama top and bottom (especially black, burgundy or navy) can translate into a chic pant suit.
