As far as I am concerned, Demna Gvasalia is the most exciting designer out there. Gvasalia is the head of a collective, 18 in total who speak 13 languages between them, of young fashion designers who produce a label called Vetements. He worked in the design department at Maison Margiela, and Louis Vuitton during the transition from Marc Jacobs to Nicolas Ghesquière. Vetements was born after lunch break meet ups between Gvasalia and his friends, who all worked for other big fashion names, where they would have, what he told the Independent were, "frustrated, horrible talks about fashion....hating everything, hating our jobs…". Vetements was created as an antidote to that.
Vetements has been received with a cult-like vigor since it debuted in 2014 and is becoming known for its oversized silhouettes, retro cuts, sweatshirt dressing, all delivered with a "don't give a fuck" attitude. Edge delivered with some serious skill.
