You've all heard all these requests for a Presidential "peaceful transition of power". Personally, I am offended by the asking of a peaceful transition of power and to give Trump a chance by the public, by liberals and Obama. Let me be clear- I am always for peace and understand the need for positivity right now and see why that could mean giving this man a chance. That said, Trump deserves the same respect that he has given entire communities and women-which is no respect at all.
This peaceful transition is attached to white privilege- it's for the white man, living in his comfortable apartment in the upper west side or the coast of Santa Monica, free from fear. There is no peaceful transition for people of color, LGBT communities, disabled peoples, muslims, Mexicans or women. Women are under threat of having their reproductive rights taken away, right down to our free birth control. Muslims are under attack, having their Hijabs ripped off and literally beaten to death. Latin American families are in fear of being ripped apart, and children are being told by their teachers that they are going to be deported. Women are under the threat of having what little reproductive rights we have taken away. And that is not even the tip of the iceberg.
As far as I am concerned, the only chance of redemption for this man and any opportunity of a peaceful transition will ONLY be remotely possible if Trump retracts his offensive statements, sincerely condones these hate crimes being committed in his name, and does what needs to be done in order to secure the safety for all us, including not giving seats in his cabinet to people equally as disgusting, racist, and unqualified as he is.
Until then, I don't know about you, but I am not kneeling.
