Healthy Habits For Every 30 Something

The diet, the workout, the skincare regime, and beyond.

We are busy, which means an hour of exercise 5 days a week may not exactly be in the works for us. However, exercise is really important to maintain your body (both inside and out) and overall health. It’s a great stress reliever, helps with sleep, actually gives you more energy,
There are so many ways to get some exercise in on busy schedule! Join a class a day or two a week after work, go for a brisk walk, jog or bike ride on the weekends, follow exercise videos online right in the comfort of your home during the week. Mixing it up makes exercise less of a chore and a lot more fun.

Diet is everything when it comes to your overall health…and glowing skin and hair. In our 30's, we may notice shifts in weight in where we gain it, which mean we need to make some shifts of of our own. A downshift in calorie intake and and an upshift in activity. A general rule of thumb (depending on your body mass index, or BMI) is that woman in their 30’s who are not very active only need about 1600-1800 calories per day. It’s always important, but now more than ever, to be sure that we flooding our bodies with nutrient dense foods every single day. Clear your pantry of soda, sugary drinks and processed foods. If you are going to eat chips or crackers, opt for a healthier option. Choose healthy oils to cook with- like olive, canola, flaxseed and avocado oil. Last, try to eat every color of the rainbow, every day. And not in gummy bears. If you’re not eating fruits and vegetables every day, you’re cheating your body out of essential vitamins and nutrients.

Our skin changes a lot in our 30s. Cell turnover slows down, age spots start to show, our skin begins to sag and fine lines start to pop up. A glycolic peel once or twice a week for bed will do wonders for shedding dead skin and giving you a glow, while Vitamin C helps prevent wrinkles and sun damage and fade dark spots. But retinol is really the holy grail of anti-aging and great skin. It produces collagen, plumps skin, fades dark spots, helps eliminate fine lines, increases cell turnover (exfoliates), and helps prevent wrinkles from popping up. Number 1 most important skincare step to remember though is your sunscreen (SPF 30+) every day.

There are so many benefits of meditating from the physical benefits of  lowering blood pressure, improving the immune system and increasing serration (which improves your mood), to the mental benefits of reducing anxiety and stress, increasing happiness, creativity and clarity, and expands the consciousness. The best part about meditation is that it only takes a few minutes per day to reap the benefits, and once you start it really becomes the best part of your day. Cut out time to mediate daily, even if it’s just for 10 minutes! Apps like Headspace or The Mindfulness App are really fun and helpful.

Here it is:
1. Start with a glass of warm lemon waterLemon is antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting. It naturally detoxifies the body, stimulating digestion and cleansing the liver, and is a diuretic that will detoxify your body, clear your skin and balance your pH levels.
2. Eat beets! They contain iron, zinc, calcium, and magnesium, which are all essential for detoxification, and help cleanse the gallbladder and liver, your two organs that are responsible for clearing your body of waste and toxins.
3. Drink plenty of water! At least 64 ounces of water per day will have your body clean, your skin plump and glowing and will leave you with tons of energy.

4. Add herbs and spices to your meals. Not only are they delicious, but they come with a detoxifying punch. Cilantro, is great for getting rid of toxic metals that build up in your organ tissues. Turmeric protects the liver from incoming toxins. Parsley protects the liver and cleanses the blood. Rosemary, cayenne pepper and ginger are also great for detoxification.
