9 Ways To Spring Clean Your Closet, Your Mind & Your Body

Get all the tips you need to "Spring Clean" everything from your closet, your diet, your attitude, your workspace, and more!

It's that time! Here are 9 things you need to clean up this Spring.

1. Your Diet
Think about what your average diet looks like each week. How many fruits and vegetables are you getting? How much protein? What is your junk food and sugar intake looking like? You have probably noticed that you need to make some adjustments.

Get yourself on a healthier diet, now! Be sure you are getting plenty of fruits and vegetables every day. My favorite thing to do is try to eat every color of the rainbow every day (in fruits and vegetables, not gummy bears). It's important to be getting plenty of good, complete protein each week. I stick to vegetarian proteins for moral purposes but they are simply so much healthier for you. Either way, try to incorporate good protein into your diet each week. Lastly, (mostly) eliminate junkfood! I say "mostly" because I am not one to deprive myself of anything. Have a couple small pieces of dark chocolate every week or whatever you are into, but clear your diet of everything else. Stop with the chips, sodas, candy, etc. Processed sugar is so freakin' bad for you and leads to so many health problems.

2. Your Sleeping Habits
You've heard it all before- sleep is so freakin' important. Healthy sleeping habits are associated with higher energy levels, healthier eating habits, a clearer mind, life longevity and so much more good stuff. The amount of sleep we require depends on us as individuals. I require at least 8, my boyfriend, for example, needs 4. Whatever your magic number is, be sure you are getting it each night! Also, keep in mind that a good sleep pattern means you are going to bed and waking up at generally the same time every day, 7 days a week. Worried about not being able to sleep in on the weekends? Don't be. If you practice good sleep habits, you will feel so much more rested and won't be reliant on those weekend sleep-ins.

3. Your Closet
Obvs on this one. Get in there and start organizing. First, go through every item in your closet and start making your donate pile. Anything that you haven't worn in the last year goes in the pile. None of the "but I may wear it! It's actually a good dress" bullshit. You're not wearing it. Goodbye. If it's too small it's going too. Don't do the "I might fit into it soon" thing. If it's too big it can stay because you can take it to your tailor. Once you are done with this, the fun part comes. You get to start organizing by tops, pants, skirts, dresses, sweaters, or whatever you're into. I organize by garment type and then by style. TOPS-tanks-flared sleeves-button ups-off the shoulder. PANTS-denim-trousers-wide leg-printed. You feel me?

4. Your Grudges
Holding any grudges? Let them go. Just do it! Forgive that friend or family member. Remember that nobody is responsible for your happiness or positive state or mind but you. The good news? That means that you don't even need an apology to move on! Simply remind yourself that you are enough and regardless of who did what, you can choose to be released of any anger or hurt feelings.

5. Your Workspace
It is time to get organized! Clutter obscures your capabilities and your sense of peace. Clear out your catch-all drawer, organize your desktop on your computer, delete hundreds of old emails, and start getting your workspace organized. Create bins or paper organizers to prioritize- "to do now", "to do this week", and maybe have a short term storage bin for things like magazine subscriptions or print-outs you want to read.

6. Your Friends, Phone and Social Media
Decide right now that you are not going to surround yourself with anybody who does not bring something positive to your life. Whether they are close friends or social media acquaintances, cut ties with people who are negative or bring you down in any way. Break the news to that friend, delete those few people from social media and for god's sake clean out your phone contacts. I know there are a handful of numbers you have had since high school, more than a few contacts that you haven't talked to in years, and probably an old boyfriend or two in there. De-lete.

7. Your To-Do List
Now is the time to get all of that not-so-fun stuff that's been sitting in the back of your head done. Go ahead and write it all down- getting your teeth cleaned, paying those bills, calling your grandma, getting your iPad fixed, doctor's appointments-the list probably goes on...and on. Make this the week to check everything off your list. You will feel amazing once you do.

8. Your Attitude
Throw out any negative thoughts you may have about yourself, your job, your future, or whatever it may be! I am firm believer that "we are what we think". Stop telling yourself you're not good enough, stop judging and criticizing others, stop reminding yourself how crappy your job is, etc. Pay attention to your thoughts more and immediately throw out any negative thoughts or criticism as soon as they come.  Be grateful instead. Gratitude is essential to a happy life. Cultivating an attitude of gratitude has been linked to better health, sounder sleep, less anxiety and depression, higher long-term satisfaction with life and kinder behavior toward others.

9. Your Routine
It's time to get out of the rut you are in. Now that you have healthier sleeping and eating habits,  a good attitude, have checked off everything on your to-do list, and have an organized closet and workspace, it's time to get on a good routine. I think have a daily and a weekly routine is super important. Start by coming up with a morning ritual that will help you get your day started in a positive way. Instead of waking up and running out of the house, allow yourself some time to take in the morning and prepare for the day ahead. Have a cup of warm water with lemon, stretch, take a probiotic, meditate, rub oil onto your skin- whatever makes you feel good and gets you going. Then create an exercise schedule and also be sure to cut out time to decompress and whatever else you feel you need.
