In
much of the same way that many people have decided to go organic or ditch toxic
products, a growing number of women are turning to this natural way to avoid
getting pregnant.
A
lot of us have been on birth control for many, many years. I have been on mine
for over ten years. I recently started thinking about what kind of effect the
pill has had on my body after so many years, and if the synthetic hormones are
wreaking havoc on my body and ovaries. Since hormones have such an effect on
your mood and personality, I started to wonder if I would be "different"
if I didn't have a chemical in control of my body. I began entertaining the
thought of getting off of the pill in order to let my body detox from hormones
and chemicals and allow it to return to it's natural process.
Getting
of the pill can be a bit scary, having not had to think twice or worry about
getting pregnant for so long. But I recently came across this all natural,
alternative way to avoid getting pregnant.
What
is it?
FAM (fertility awareness method) is an old-school a way of charting your menstrual cycle so that you know when
you’re most fertile. It is a method that
involves a combination of charting your menstrual cycle, basal body temperature
(BBT) and cervical mucus changes. By doing so, addition to noting when you get
your period, helps you determine when you’re ovulating and thus when you’re
most fertile. Not having sex during in that window, or using a form of
protection, helps prevent pregnancy.
There's
an app for that
DAYSY is a fertility monitor that uses the FAM method by learning and tracking your
menstrual cycle. It will show you if you are fertile or not by taking your temperature
then using an algorithm to calculate how fertile you are. The method has an
accuracy of 99.3% and NO charting is necessary- it does it all for you!
With the app you can see your weekly status of fertility, your monthly calendar, see your cycle forecast, your temperature curve, and your fertility and cycle statistics.
How Daysy Works
- Every woman ovulates only once in each cycle.
- If on the rare occasion two or more ovulations occur, they will occur within 24 hours.
- After ovulation, the egg can be fertilized for a maximum of 18 hours.
- Sperm can remain active and fertile in a woman’s body for a maximum of 5 days.
This means that there are only 6 days in every cycle when a woman can get pregnant: 5 days before ovulation and the day of ovulation. Daysy will tell you precisely when these days occur.
- Every morning, take your temperature under your tongue using the Daysy thermometer that attaches to your phone.
- Confirm menstruation on the days you have it.
- Daysy evaluates your data and calculates your fertility status for the next 24 hours
Who
Daysy is for
Birth
control isn't for everybody and many women suffer side effects and/or cannot be
on birth control for health reasons. Birth control is often avoided by women
who suffer from side effects, have cancer, diabetes, depression, migraines, a
weakened immune system, who are breastfeeding or who suffer a low libido (which
is common with birth control). Daysy is a great solution for women who fall
into one of these groups, but is also for women who, like me, want to go
natural and get in tune with their body.
